Yes, it's Saturday, January 5, 2008. It will be held in Kabankalan, but there are suggestions to do it in Bacolod because of better accomodations. It will be an all day affair, and may very well run late into the night. We will take this up in the next meeting. Please post your ideas.

Re: What is the official date?

    Hi Herbert,

As I am new to the site and unsure whether my fellow family (Hermie "Nene" Zayco clan) members are in the loop as to the reunion date (tita Eega are you around???). The best I can do is to check with them one by one via sms and inform you in this forum as to the participation from our side.   I have heard of the January schedule but I just want to make sure someone is communicating from our end with you and the person in-charge of organising the event.  BTW, my name is Almond (Alfonso Javier) and I am the eldest grandson of Nene C Zayco.

Look forward to seeing the whole clan this Jan 08 in Kabangks.

    Best regards,

    Almond

Re: What is the official date?

    Hi Almond,

We're hoping that this sight will serve as the source of information for the Zayco Reunion 2008. We had one meeting so far and we'll be planning another in June. There are several generations involved in the organization, and naturally, many different ideas on when and where, etc. The older folks (who don't use a PC) want to use the snail mail process to inform family members, as this is the only method they know. Some of us aren't too keen on it because we hardly know where folks are. What we did is assign representatives for every branch, and use the ever-useful Zayco word-of-mouth, and texting, and email.

One problem with reunions is the number of people who decide to come at the last minute. It will be a venue and catering nightmare. So... we will keep it informal, with several kioskos to serve food and drinks, just like a fiesta. The different branches of the family will come in colors to signify where they belong: Lorenzo-blue, Hilarion-green, Carlota-orange, Hermenegildo-yellow, Pilar-purple, and Timoteo-red.

Please inform as many as you can, and encourage them to join our conversation. We have six months to get to know each other, and exchange ideas, and in January, see each other in the flesh.

    Btw, cute baby!

    Hi Almond,

I'm glad you are able to register and contribute to this site. I am not so sure about information regarding the reunion and am only relying on posts in this site for information about it. However, one of the main  purpose of this site is to keep everyone in touch especially forour reunion. Most of my information I get from Daday. It will be great if you can get other family member to sign up into this site to keep as many family members in the loop. I got the other info you have sent and will address them asap.

For the benfit of other family members, can you please update you profile by clicking on your name at the upper right hand of the site once you have logged in and fill in some missing info.

Thank you very much. I hope you can visit and post on the site often.

Re: What is the official date?

    Hi Daday,

Thanks for your reply and my apologies for the late response.  I think you guys are doing a great job trying to put this all together.  It must be tough considering the coverage you will have to go through reaching out to all relatives.  From my part, the best I can do for you is to run a roll-call within the Hermie Zayco clan to see who would be interested in joining the reunion.  For starters, you can count me and my wife in.

Would you happen to know who is the representative assigned to our branch?  That way we can streamline the consolidation and data gathering process.  I've been in touch with the cousins here in Manila (Marga, Reenee, Shasha, etc.) and we can meet up to discuss participation.

On a similar note, I can find time to visit Kabangkalan leading to the reunion and perhaps touch base with relatives there.  My only problem is that I don't know any of them.  I suppose Herbert is Kabangks based.  Anyone or any lead you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

    Best,

    Almond

Re: What is the official date?

    HI Almond,

The Hermenegildo branch was represented by Cristy, Trina and Baby during our first meeting. I've also talked to Steve and Skippy, and I hope more people would come for our second meeting to be held on Friday, Jun 15, here in Bacolod. I'll post whatever we discuss soon after.

If you want to take an initial trip down here, I suggest you contact Bomber. Punta Bulata is on the web...pls check it out. South of Kabankalan has many beach resorts, and has also become the new destination for those seeking retirement homes by the sea.

If you come, let me know if there's a way I can help with any arrangements. Take care.

Re: What is the official date?

    Hello cousins,

Sorry for my ignorance, but I live in Connecticut USA and am seriously considering attending the Zayco reunion but have not been in the Visayas since I was a child!  My name is Detsy Urra, grandaughter of Margarita Zayzo Urra and daughter of Raul Urra.  In regards to having the reunion in Kabankalan but there having a concern of availability of accommodations, how far is Bacolod from Kabankalan?  If it were less than a couple hours drive (is that a crazy guess??), perhaps shuttles could be considered to shuttle folks to/from the event.

    Best, Detsy

Re: What is the official date?

    HI Detsy,

Glad to hear from you. We hope to accomodate everyone interested in coming to the reunion. There are a few hotels in Kabankalan, but most relatives  are staying in Bacolod. And yes, we'll have chartered buses. It will be a two-hour drive (more or less), and these same buses will go back to Bacolod in the evening. Please continue checking this website because after our next meeting, we'll have more details and start the "signing-up" process. We'll have a listing of hotels and resorts also. One of the resorts--Punta Bulata--offered a shuttle bus to Kabankalan that day.

    Thanks!

    Daday

Re: What is the official date?

    Hi Daday,

Great to hear from you too, and thanks for the info!  Not sure yet whether we (perhaps my son and his wife may join me, as well as my siblings and theirs) we would prefer to stay in Kabankalan or in Bacolod, and I will shortly get with my sister to discuss.  In any case it's good to know there will be shuttles and that the ride will not be more than a couple hours.

It seems the Punta Bulata resort is still a ways from being completed, otherwise it would be great to be able to see what it actually looks like including the rooms themselves.  Is there a site or someone that may have information readily available that could give us an idea of the amenities, ltopography/location in terms of whether it's on the shore and has a beach or not, and last but not least the anticipated prices of rooms, meals, whether there are inclusive packages, and so forth.  Certainly don't want to create work on this, but would love to know more about the resort if and when this info is available.

     best, Detsy

Re: What is the official date?

Hi again, it seems I jumped the gun and the reality is that getting the news of the reunion 6 months prior is just a bit short-notice for us to be able to make it.  I was very much looking forward to it, but after further evaulating the timing, it's just not going to work out.  Thanks for taking the time to chat with me though, and I will certainly watch for the event photos!

    best, Detsy

Re: What is the official date?

We'll be printing a souvenir program for the reunion which will include the family tree, and family photos. For those who could not come, we can still reserve a copy. Anyone may add family photos, especially the "old" pics of grandparents. Please tell relatives who have these valuable photos to share, so we can include them.  I will discuss details in this site. Thanks!
