Where it all started - Maria Zayco

Maria ZaycoAccording to Daday [Dabao, Joy Frances (I472)‎]

Maria Zayco (1842-1912) came to Cauayan, Negros Occidental with her parents from Arevalo, Iloilo. Her mother was Martina Decena, and her father (no first name) was a Suico. Some say Soyco. She changed the name to Zayco, therefore, everyone with this last name is her descendant. ---as told by Asuncion (Nena) Juson.

In 1822 Cauayan was founded by Don Vicente Paulo Decena, believed to have come from Cebu,. He was enticed into Cauayan by the legendary beauty of a native girl who subsequently became his wife, Martina Decena.

Who was Maria's father? Maria's son, Lorenzo Zayco, also uses Decena for his middle name. Could it have been Maria Zayco's original last name and she just made up "Zayco"?
