T'was a balmy saturday afternoon and we decided to hit two birds with one stone, ika nga. Colorado Springs is 70 miles south of Denver and we went to the USAF Academy and Pike's peak. The USAF academy produces about 900 officers a year. There are about 50K applicant a year and only around 1,200 are chosen. It's atmosphere is like that of a huge university campus with facilities that can outmatch most of the private ones. It has a chapel with an architectural design which looks like aircrafts standing on it's tail stuck together, it is an awesome sight. From the academy, Pike's peak is about about 20 miles away through winding roads to a dizzieing heights of over 14K feet above sea level. It is one of the 53 peaks of Colorado and ranks 32nd of peaks over the 14K mark. Although we were'nt able to reach the apex due to rain, slippery road conditions and a temperature hovering 50 degrees F, we stopped and checked out the souvenir store just before the peak which was at over 11K above sea level. We were almost near the tree line at 12K feet above sea level where trees are no longer able to grow. It was an awesome day!!!
